Super Sparkle Action Writing

I've spent the last two weeks on a major larp writing jag, in conjunction with my Evil Co-writer (TM), Cat. No seriously, on Monday night of Queen's Birthday Weekend she was sending begging emails saying "Please make it stop! I can't sleep becaue it's all going round and round in my head!"

Things have been going pretty well, and fortunately we've worked most of the way through that horrid dry patch where it's no longer easy but it's also not yet done - still a couple of characters who don't have quite the zing I want, but on the other hand six are at proofreading stage, and there are another nine in pretty good shape. Also, we've had some pretty fun moments in there, as well as this wonderful bit where we realised that fixing a problem with one character could at the same time act as the key to making another character really interesting and also make some of the stuff we put into that person pretty much at random look like we'd planned it all along. I love it when that happens. :-)

Should really finish the player pack background stuff and send out the casting emails...

(Tomorrow, my regular group gets together again. We're going to play a horsepunk game.)

On being a published author

Er, kind of, so long as being a part of a Lulu collection counts.

The Event

Gosh, it really has been a while since I posted an update. Stuff has been happening, I promise!

Anyway, part four of The Event is mostly up.

Things I didn't expect today...

"On behalf of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Association of New Zealand Inc. we write to advise that [cat-th-adage and] you have been nominated for the Sir Julius Vogel (SJV) Award for:

Best fan publication: The Girl Who Asked for Wisdom and Other Short Works"

Thank you to whoever made the nomination! :-)

(Cat did all the hard graft on this, my contribution was to let her make free of my hard drive.)

I have spent -

- the last three hours pinned on the couch by my cat. I made a brief escape half an hour ago to deal with some necessary functions (servicing my tea addiction and so forth), to be promptly pinned as soon as a I sat down again, ran out of ways to waste time on the internet, and have been left with resurrecting some half-finished stories that had gone the way of procrastination and adding bits. I had no idea you were so literarily inclined when I met you, Macca.

Cerise Magazine

Cerise is a web magazine devoted to woman gamers and is particularly favourable to feminist points of view. Their articles are predominately on video/PC gaming and roleplaying with occasional excursions onto Larping and Wargaming. Also, they now publish articles by me. :-)

Apparently, I Write Like A Boy.

One of the internet widgets I've recently found is the Gender Genie, which implements an algorithm tracking keywords that are, according to the creator, indicative of gender.

Blog posts, essays, fiction... only one of them thought I was at all girlie, and that was a retelling of Sir Gawain in not at all colloquial English. I wonder what it would think if I wrote a short story about barbie dolls...
