Huzzah!
Just spent the weekend being one of the editors for a 48 Hours team. Really like how our film turned out (road movie called "Sunset Road"). Now very tired. [yawns hugely]

48 Hours Update
Team got 90% of the footage in the can yesterday and I stayed up until about 2.30 doing the rough cut, while Svendelmaus, my fellow gnome, messed around with sounds and backing music.* Really liking what's coming through. (If anyone is interested, we managed to write a script that's valid for 3 of the 48 Hours Approved genres, plus one that isn't. And it works. Go team!) Looking forward to the screening on Thursday.
Am now in Sunday morning lounging in my pyjamas mode, trying to stay awake so I'll sleep alright tonight. Also, there's a builder coming in about 40 minutes to fix a window sill - should probably get dressed for that.
* Day not without frustrations, like working out to get the DOP to cough up the first tape so I could start downloading footage, then having a panic attack trying to work out how to get the camera I'd been given to work and remembering how to use the software and working out why the new import method we were trying to speed up data entry wasn't working. Ah. Good times. Happily, my fellow gnome watched me typing in the shot entries for the second tape, said "That's inefficient!" and whipped up a specialised data entry program that took the job from 30-40 minutes of fiddliness to done-before-someone-has-finished-making-me-tea. Go Svend!

48 Hours
I'm in Jenni's Angels again this year, this time as one of the writers, and assistant editor.
We got Revenge Movie, which we figured is easy to do cornily and hard to do well, and we wanted to do it well. The brainstorming with everyone took ages, and then the writing team: me, Morgue, JenniTalula and Amphigori repaired to my house and motored through into a script that we really liked, and got it finished about 2.30am, far earlier than expected. I've had about 6 hours sleep and am feeling a bit spacy, but not at all too bad - my work for the afternoon is to start downloading the first tape. I'm quite looking forward to it, as I'll get to see what they've created with my night's work. [rubs hands in anticpatory glee]
Oh, the movie? It's a Film Noir Revenge Flick in which FraserByProxy gets beaten up lots. It's sure to be a winner!

Wot I Did This Weekend...
It was rather busy.
On Friday I graduated. My sister Cat says I looked super cute, although most of the photos didn't come out so well, so I can't prove it to the disinterested observer. It was pretty standard as graduations go, sore feet, marshalls who have the operation planned out like a war, getting to see professors in their extremely gaudy party clothes. Also, one of mine came up to me just as I was leaving the reception and said lots of nice things which is always good for my ego.
Some pictures that did come out well:

On Saturday morning we had a birthday breakfast with my John, Mum's John, Cat and Ed, which was a lot of fun. I got a good present haul, mostly involving books and homeware stuff (I asked for egg beaters, but also got a nice set of coasters and some kind of weird food processing implement called a Whiz Stick.) I think I've reached an age where I really want to nest, although it might also be the effects of moving house a month ago.
On Saturday afternoon and Sunday I was the assistant editor for a short film entered in the 48 Hours Furious Filmmaking competition. We made a superhero film about quarreling flatmates who haven't realised that they've been fighting the other one as a 4 colour hero/villain for some time now. This was my first go as an editor - on Thursday night I was given a hasty lesson on the editing software and the means to capture and log footage, and apparently exceeded expectations by working out how to insert title cards as placeholders while I was doing a rough cut. And I had the pleasure of seeing some of the shots I selected make it into the final work, although overall it was much changed by the work of the senior editor.
The screening is tonight. Yay!

The 48
So the reason I've been mostly incommunicado this weekend is my excursion into the 48 Hour Film Competition, with my team the Flying Monkeys. We had to make a movie in 48 hours with the following random elements:
Character : Jerry/Gerri Reed, a hypochondriac
Prop: A rope
Dialogue : "What do you call that?"
We made a serious War movie, with serious issues, in Lego. Will load it into YouTube after the whole business with heats and finals and stuff is done.

48 Hours: More Mud Than Mordavia
So, its the end of the first full day. We cut off filming at 5 because the light was going and all of our shooting is outside. We're in the process of filming a Monster Movie that's set in Fraser's Dad's backyard. Given the weather, I'm hoping that we get style points for having an entirely outdoor shoot on a rainy weekend.
Oddly, despite the fact that I've been eating all day, I've been hungry all day, too. Still, right now I'm clean, dry, demudded, my feet are dry, and I've just had a hot dinner. Bliss.
Am having a wonderful time.
(I exaggerated a little bit - there isn't more mud than in a winter Mordavia game. Just.)

So I Just Had My 48 Hour Writing Audition.
We ended up with a silent film, with a giraffe, and the line "I can't remember anything before two weeks ago" in which Fraser gets tied up, beaten up, and then nearly slaughtered like a dog. By Debbie. With Sam as smiling yet sinister sidekick. Oh, and I forgot the bit where Debbie reaches into Fraser's throat and pulls out the other giraffe. We were going for a gloomy, claustrophobic, sinister feel, as you can tell.
Twas a lot of fun.
